About the challenge

FoundersHack is an inter-university hackathon designed to give students a hands-on introduction to startups and Australia’s ecosystem. Over 60 hours, collaborate with top students from across Sydney, develop technical prototypes to tackle real-world challenges, and gain mentorship from experienced founders/operators.

With dedicated mentorship and a high-energy Pitch Night, FoundersHack provides a platform to refine ideas, receive expert feedback, and build a strong entrepreneurial network. Finalist teams will showcase their solutions to venture capitalists and startup leaders, competing for cash prizes and exclusive growth sessions.

Requirements

Submission Requirements

  • Pitch Video with Deck (<7m)

  • Product Demo with Prototype (<3m)

  • Code Submission: Teams should demonstrate a sufficient level of competence based on guidelines (see disclaimer below)

  • Daily Progress Updates via Discord

Submission Deadline

11:59pm, Sunday 22nd March via Devpost

Disclaimer

  • Code should be well-engineered: scalable, maintainable, and intentional in its design.

  • Time and space complexity should be reasonable — not significantly worse than an optimal approach.

  • Components, modules, and APIs should be cleanly integrated, with clear separation of concerns.

  • Avoid redundant logic or unused variables, except where doing so would sacrifice readability.

  • AI/model API calls should be purposeful and used sparingly — not as a crutch or workaround.

  • Code structure should support future iteration, with functions and classes designed for extensibility.

Note

This is not a university assessment. Rigid rubrics do not determine how successful a startup is. This rubric exists to maintain fairness and consistency across submissions. The organisers will not provide a detailed explanation of what is required to obtain a specific percentage of available points, but they do provide guidance. Be scrappy, think deeply about what you are solving, and just build.
